The Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) is a clinical tool which is designed to effectively engage clients in their very own clinical care. This approach is specifically designed to help the counselor launch a strong therapeutic alliance between themselves and their client in creating an effective treatment direction which will hopefully lead to a positive outcome. This paper looks at the CAMS approach designed to help modify and change the counselor’s behaviors regarding how they approach, identify, engage, conceptualize, assess the treatment plan, and manage suicidal outpatients in a clinical setting.
